Media Release 17 December 2008 Partnership with Cape Jaffa Anchorage development and One & All opens up new youth development opportunities A partnership between SA Tall Ships Incorporated and Cape Jaffa Anchorage Marina has opened up exciting, new youth development opportunities in the South East through voyages on the State’s flagship, One & All. A major support package for the One & All, announced today by the marina development company, will pave the way for Cape Jaffa to become a regular port of call for the ship. “It will certainly allow us to offer great opportunities for young people in the region to become involved in our youth development program,” said SA Tall Ships Incorporated General Manager, Philip Marshall. “The excellent facilities developed at Cape Jaffa create a safe and convenient harbour, providing a timely springboard for youth development voyages in local waters. “Youth development experiences on One & All have influenced the lives of hundreds of young South Australians, many of whom have gone on to be highly successful in their chosen careers. “The program is about personal development with enjoyment, and trainees must learn to work together in an isolated, unfamiliar and adventure-based environment. “It is not about teaching young people how to sail ships. Rather, it is about providing opportunities to learn about themselves, and positive interaction with others through their on-board experiences.” Mark Hayward, Marketing and Sales Manager for Cape Jaffa Anchorage, said the One & All would be formally welcomed into the new facility on its return from the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race on January 9. “Coinciding with the ship’s stop-over at Cape Jaffa, one of the main roads in the marina development will be officially named One & All Drive,” Mr Hayward said. “The trip from Hobart to Cape Jaffa will be a youth development voyage, so it provides the perfect opportunity for us to celebrate our relationship with SA Tall Ships and the One & All. “It will also coincide with the spectacle of the Cape Jaffa Seafood and Wine Festival, which will attract big crowds to the foreshore and marina precinct.” Through the partnership, Mr Hayward said Cape Jaffa Anchorage would provide mooring and infrastructure facilities for the One & All tailored to the specific requirements of the ship. “We will also assist in marketing and development of youth development voyages for young people in the region. “Cape Jaffa Anchorage is genuinely excited about the opportunity to work with and support SA Tall Ships, and to help promote youth development opportunities aboard the iconic One & All.” One & All has just come out of a major refurbishment in Sydney, including restoration of the masts and rigging, accommodation areas, timber and paintwork, and replacement of engineering systems. It also includes the installation of a desalination plant aboard the ship. The South Australian Government earlier this year announced that funding would be made available to enable the refurbishment of One & All in recognition of the ship’s important contribution to youth development in this State. It is the first major refit for the ship since being launched in 1987. Cape Jaffa Anchorage, located between Robe and Kingston, is a new development featuring a residential marina estate, working fishing port, tourist accommodation, marina berths and marine services. Apart from its vital safety and communications role, One & All will also serve as a supply ship for South Australian entrants in the classic event, including Pale Ale Rager.
