Youth Development

Operationally, the main business of One & All is in youth development and sail training voyages in Gulf St Vincent, Spencer Gulf and in more distant waters around South Australia.

Sail training relies on learning in an adventure-based setting. The objective is personal development with enjoyment, and trainees must learn to work together in an isolated and unfamiliar environment.

Sail training is not about teaching young people how to sail ships. Rather, it is about providing opportunities to learn about themselves and positive interaction with others through their on-board experiences.

A range of quality assurance measures are in place to evaluate each voyage, and to contribute to the on-going value of youth development.

In 2008, Sail Training International and its affiliate members – including SA Tall Ships Incorporated – was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize for “promoting international understanding and friendship through sail training for young people.”
